DROWSE MYSTERY PT.2

Portland visual artist and musician Kyle Bates who makes sombre atmospheric music under the name Drowse today releases the second cut off of his upcoming album Wane Into It. Following on from recent Midwife featuring single 'Untrue In Headphones', in 'Mystery Pt.2' Bates sings over a gently strummed acoustic guitar that floats on the surface of layers of textures undulating ambience and subtle noise, reminiscent of artists such as Grouper and The Micropones. Bates explains the origins of the track, "Change and apprehension. Allowing negative segments of the past to scatter as ashes in the air. How much space is too much space for the self-isolationist? “Mystery Pt. 2” re-examines themes from my previous album, Light Mirror. A sequel? It’s one of the most direct songs I’ve ever written, though listen closely and you’ll hear field recorded snippets of my life, organs, Moog synthesizer, Mellotron, distant sheets of metal vibrating, hidden voices—always a world beneath a world." New album Wane Into It will be released on 11th of November on experimental label The Flenser. -Toby Evans-Jesra
